Hey curvy girl! Don’t be ashamed of your full hips, large breasts, thick thighs and flowing curves! Just because the fashion magazines seem to only feature skinny girls who look like they haven’t hit puberty yet doesn’t mean that your body shape is not beautiful. Curvy women are considered very sexy, so why not embrace your body shape and learn to accentuate it.
Superstars such as
and Jane Russell
were curvy women on the BIG SCREEN until someone decided a size 3-4 was more desirable (I think it had to be a man), anyway, more recently we have,
A more diverse group of women (A VERY GOOD THANG) and they are all adored for their sexy hourglass figures. They always look amazing because they know how to dress to show off their curves.
If you are still not sure which clothes to wear to flatter your voluptuous body, here are some curvy girl fashion tips to keep in mind:
Wear the Right Undergarments
The secret for looking your best as a plus-size woman starts before you even put your clothes on. Invest in the right undergarments, such as Shapewear which will provide you with extra support for your tummy and thighs. These comfortable garments come in leggings, shorts, tank tops, corsets or any other shape you might need. With a little bit of invisible help from a supportive undergarment you can smooth out all of your “problem areas” and feel more confident in your clothes.
Also, do yourself a favour and go for a proper bra fitting. Studies have shown that 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size bra (which we will do a post on later), this can cause bulging, pinching, flattening and all sorts of other unflattering problems.
Create Vertical Lines
When you are getting dressed you can balance your curves with a few elegant and elongating vertical lines in your outfit. This will draw the eye up your body and make you look taller and leaner.
For example, tailored pants with pinstripes and a hip-length blouse underneath a blazer will look sophisticated and put together. Also, pair some long dangling necklaces with your little black dress, or wear high heels with long pants to lengthen your legs.
Leave the skintight outfits for the tiny girls because you will look and feel better in clothing which drapes properly over your shape. This doesn’t mean it should be loose and baggy! Instead, it should be well-fitted and tailored specifically for you. Don’t just buy clothes off the rack, take the time to have them altered for your shape.
Look for blouses with a draping neckline, trousers which flare at the bottom and dresses with a bit of structure. Try to find clothes which fit well in places that you want to show off and hide the places that you don’t want to show off, such as a dress which is tight around your small waist but has a full skirt around your larger hips.
Don’t Be Afraid to Flaunt Your Cleavage
As a curvy girl, one of the advantages you have over the skinny girls is your ample bosom, so make sure you take advantage of it. Don’t go overboard, because showing off too much of your chest is considered to be a bit inappropriate in most situations. However, with a well-fitting bra your fabulous chest will turn a simple button down shirt into a beautiful thing. Make sure your breasts are supported well with the right size bra and then look for dresses and shirts with a flattering neckline such as a boat-neck or a V-neck to show off your best assets.
These are just a few things that curvy girls can keep in mind when they are choosing fashions. Womanly, shapely, hourglass figures are beautiful so embrace your shape and show off what you have!
Whether you are a size 10 or a size 18 curvy women are fabulous!
